How to measure accurately
Measure for your mount type and window type, and always round DOWN to the nearest 1/16".

- Measure at least 1” of unobstructed recess space
- Round down to the nearest 1/16th of an inch

Measuring guide
You need at least 1” of unobstructed recess space to mount your shade securely.
To measure your unobstructed recess space:
- Choose a starting point and measure to the front of the recess (recess depth)
- From the same starting point, measure to the front of the obstruction (obstruction depth)
- The difference is your free recess space (unobstructed recess depth)
Even with a deep recess, obstructions can prevent you from closing your shade completely.
Obstructions protrude from your window and could be found anywhere inside your window space.
Obstructions can be:
Winders
Locks
Latches
Handles
At least 1" of unobstructed recess depth
Side frames align with the front edges of the window
Side frames are installed 1" into the recess
Headbox protudes about 1" from window opening ('overhang')
Width and height: Front edges of window
At least 2.5" of unobstructed recess depth
Headbox is aligned with the front edges of the window
Headbox and side frames are installed 2 (9/16)" into the recess
Width and height: 2.5" into your unobstructed recess
More than 2.5" of unobstructed recess depth
No features align with the front edges of the window
Headbox and side frames are installed deep into the recess
Width and height: At the preferred depth in your unobstructed recess (greater than 2.5")
Note: If your windows surface becomes wider as the window recess gets deeper. Only measure at the front edges of your recess to allow the shade to fit in your recess!

If in doubt, always round down to the nearest 1/16th of an inch.
Don’t make any deductions or additions, we’ll do that for you.
Your accuracy helps to get the best fit and the best blackout.
Width & height tips
- Measure width in 3 places (top, middle, bottom) and height in 3 places (left, middle, right).
- For inside mount, use the narrowest width and shortest height of the opening.
- Use a steel tape measure and round DOWN to the nearest 1/16".
